Sources disagree whether this is a pure American Persimmon or possibly an American/Asian cross, but its form is completely American. It bears large, less-astringent fruit that has a unique elongated shape – about the size and shape of an egg. Good texture, more firm when ripe than wild persimmons. 35-60′ tall. Zones 3-9

One of the largest American persimmons with 2 1/2 to 3″ fruits, and rated best tasting by many fruit enthusiasts. Early ripening. If it is planted without a pollinator the fruits are nearly seedless, but in this area of the country, unless you live in the city you likely have male persimmons close enough to pollinate. 35-60′ tall. Perhaps the single most useful tree for our area, the mulberry has copious amounts of delicious and nutritious (high protein, carbs, vitamins/minerals) fruit; is very fast-growing for quick shade and mulch production; leaves and stems are relished by most grazing livestock; and the wood is rot-resistant for fenceposts, etc. They are used in the silk industry to feed silkworms. Even on seedlings, fruits are borne over the course of weeks rather than ripening all at once like most tree fruits. Mulberries are delicious – they taste similar to raspberries, but with no noticeable seeds and no thorns. The only disadvantages are the staining quality of the dark fruits; need a ladder to harvest prime berries (except for ‘Gerardi’ dwarf!); and without pruning the trees can get messy-looking, holding onto dead branches and twigs. Mulberries can take some shade without suffering from lower production of berries. Height to 35’. Zones 5-9. Grafted trees on seedling rootstock.

We sporadically carry too many different varieties of papaw for me to keep up with them all. They also sell out quickly. Right now, for example, we have about 10 gallon size grafted trees, but I don’t have an exact inventory count of which varieties. Newly grafted trees of all varieties listed plus some others will be available in late May.
